History skipped over

In your history books you skipped over some history following the Vietnam War and guess what...too many people died. History isn't just for testing students memories on the names and dates of American "heros."

The following is an example of history that should be taught in school so that it is not repeated. Something our current and previous few presidents seem to have completely ignored, or implemented as some form of stimulus package custom designed for the military industrial complex.

First. the only requirements for completing the mission in Afghanistan are the following original list of demands made to the Taliban on September 20, 2001:

1. Deliver to the U.S. all of the leaders of al-Qaeda
2. Release all imprisoned foreign nationals
3. Close immediately every terrorist training camp
4. Hand over every terrorist and their supporters to appropriate authorities
5. Give the United States full access to terrorist training camps for inspection. (1)

Beyond that, everything else is just plundering of lives and tax money. The war in Iraq was distracting enough to make everyone forget about the above list and then assume the two wars were some kind of massive mission to free people from "tyranny," and spread democracy around the world, turning the whole mess into some mystical endless aspiration, like the "war on drugs."

What happened after the Shah took power in Iran in 1953? The links are there.

OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM

RESULT: IRANIAN REVOLUTION 1979

RESULT: The natural course of historically consistent results of nation-building.

So, lets start a pool, shall we? How long does Hamid Karzai have as ruler of Afghanistan before he winds up like Mohammad Rezā Shāh Pahlavi, living in Exile somewhere in the U.S?

Have we no decency?

The British-Iranian situation

Several British sailors are in Iranian custody because the Iranians claimed the British ship was in Iranian waters, but the Brits claim they were 2000 yards into Iraqi waters.

It does not matter. "Intent To Cross" can be rightfully assumed within a range of yards calculated from the boundary based on the height of your ships radar from sea level. The Brits should have been at least 4000 yards from the boundary (about half the distance to the visible horizon from the height of the ship's bridge.

The opposing claims should be set aside, the Brits should concede they at least were too close, and negotiations of a neutral zone on sea borders should be established (four thousand yards wide). Understanding of visual and electronic boundaries should be established. This would mean that skirmishes within the newly established neutral zone remain in the neutral zone and can be construed independently of any official declaration of war.

An "Enter at your own risk," would apply and we could call it the Thunderdome Nautical Law.
